Norman A. “Tony” Algiers came up through the ranks to retire as a Commander, U.S. Navy. In 1988, nearly 50 years after he served in a four stack destroyer, he put his recollections of these tough little ships on paper, creating this unique, humorous, and accurate 50 page booklet (8-l/2” x 11”). This is a comprehensive study of the 273 flush deck, four stack destroyers built between 1917 and 1922. Forty of these ships, urgently needed to fight the Kaiser’s U-Boats commissioned before WWI ended and 28 of them served in European waters before that war ended.
